Mariazellerbahn is a real jewel of alpine railway engineering.
The track starts in St. Pölten and ends in Mariazell. In between are 84 km of alpine railtrack crossing 79 bridges and tunnels. The longest tunnel ist 2.430 m.
Gauge size is 30". Our gauge ist called "Bosnian gauge".
This gauge came via Suez (after end of the channel construction) to Austria. In the first step (more than 120 years ago) in the protectorat Bosnia railways with this gauge have been built. Therefore it got this name.
